Jade Alex ~ Director

Jade Alex is a disciplined Actor and Director raised in the Blue Mountains, Australia. With over 7 years of acting training through NIDA short courses and movement workshops with William Zappa, Jade graduated from the Australian Academy of Dramatic Arts with a Bachelor of Performance. Jade refined her skills as a director under mentor: Helmut Bakaitis and later directed and devised her own work; The Butterfly and the Black Dog, first performed at the Pilgrim Theatre, then later at ICE (Information and Cultural Exchange) in Parramatta as a fundraiser for The Back Dog Institute. This was Jade’s first time directing Physical Theatre, and it was through this experience that she came to respect the power of body language and the importance of sound design. During her study at AADA Jade was given the opportunity to assist and observe an admired director, Damien Ryan – Artistic Director of Sport for Jove and Adam Cook.

Since graduating with a BA from AADA, Jade became heavily involved in Theatre In Education and Children’s Entertainment. In 2014 Jade joined Blue Mountains Entertainment playing Wendy in ‘The Wollemi Warrior Adventure’, which toured to The Botanic Gardens in Mt Tomah and Mt Annan to various school groups. Afterwards Jade joined Blue Whale Theatre Company playing Evie in ‘Evie the Christmas Elf’. This show was toured to Primary schools in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. In 2015, Jade played ‘Nina’ in ‘The Seagull’ as a part of an ensemble project produced by Hurrah Hurrah and The Hot BLOODed Theatre Company. This was performed as a part of ‘The Rocks Pop Up’ theatre in a Shop front on George St, The Rocks. Jade has also directed various short plays, one of which was performed in Short and Sweet 2015, ‘Voicing Up the Marriage’.

With a passion for physical Theatre – reinforced by the guidance of Anca Frankenhaeuser who taught her the subtlety of what the body could do, and Shy Magsalin, who instilled the discipline of the Suzuki Method – Jade was thrilled to be asked to direct Akio! Produced by Blue Theatre Co in association with Hayes Theatre Co. Akio! Is a ‘Son et Lumiere’ of the human body, a homage to Japanese Popular culture and a combination of humor and playfulness to be enjoyed by all ages. With great respect for Theatre In Education, Jade endeavors to deliver a show with a heartwarming message of what it means to have faith to make a change, the courage to keep moving forward and enough love to last you forever.
